GIBSON MELTDOWN
We kind of knew this was coming: Screenwriter JOE ESZTERHAS said he had recordings of MEL GIBSON flying off the handle yet again. And now, one of those recordings has been released.
Quick backstory: Eszterhas had been hired to write what was supposed to be one of Mel's next movies, "The Maccabees".
The movie got shelved, and it was supposedly because Joe's script wasn't up to snuff. But Joe wrote a nine-page letter saying it was Mel's fault.
He accused Mel of being a Jew-hating anger ball who wanted to kill his ex-girlfriend OKSANA GRIGORIEVA and had no intention of actually making the film. (--You can read our story on the letter here.)
The new audio was recorded during a trip to Costa Rica this past December by Joe's 15-year-old son Nick . . . who used his iPod. There were several people present including Joe and Nick, Joe's wife, friends of Mel's and members of his staff.
In the video, Mel is RAGING. He screams at Joe, quote, "Why don't I have a first draft of 'The Maccabees'? What the [eff] have you been doing?"
He also goes after Oksana, saying, quote, "I am earning money for a filthy little [person who performs oral sex] who takes advantage of me . . . So hurry the [eff] up!"
Then he yells at all his guests, quote, "Who wants to eat? Who the [eff] wants to eat? Go have something to eat. Hurraaayyyyy!" (???)
There's also a loud thud where Mel apparently knocked over a totem pole . . . and some random spewing of profanities.
(I know we got kinda bored of all the craziness the last time Mel lost his marbles, but this audio is pretty funny. You can listen to it, and read the transcript, here. WARNING!!! This clip contains TONS OF UNBLEEPED PROFANITY.)
As for his reasons for releasing the audio, Eszterhas says, quote, "The bottom line is it shows to me he badly needs help.
"My interest isn't to damage him with this tape but to prevent damage being done to others, starting with Jews, including Oksana and now, I'm sure, me.
"I strongly believe that unless he seeks and receives some kind of psychiatric help, someone is going to get hurt."
