Like most Americans, my knowledge of history is based solely on what I learned from MOVIES.
--For example, thanks to STEVEN SPIELBERG, I know that in 1945, a German businessman named Oskar Schindler saved the lives of nearly 1,200 Jews by having them work in his factories so they wouldn't be sent to concentration camps.
--Of course, Schindler was a real guy, and he actually did create a list of people to save . . . a copy of which is now being sold for $2.2 MILLION.
--According to the dealer who's handling the sale, quote, "It's one of four remaining copies left in the world; the originals having been turned over to the Nazis.
--"It's printed on onion-skin paper. It's remarkable given the age and the paper. It's in excellent shape . . . This is the only remaining copy left in private hands. The rest are in museums."
--The current owner of the list is a relative of Itzhak Stern. He was Oskar Schindler's attorney, and was portrayed in the movie by BEN KINGSLEY.
