Now it's time to recognize our A-hole of the Day . . . 47-year-old William Melchert-Dinkel of St. Paul, Minnesota.
--For the past several years, William has spent his free time trawling Internet chat rooms looking for depressed and suicidal people. The goal was to persuade them to KILL THEMSELVES while he watched online.
--According to police, William pretended to be a 28-year-old female nurse named Li Dao. He'd give his victims advice on the most effective ways to take their own lives, and after gaining their trust they'd enter into a suicide pact together.
--But once the other person was dead, William would back out of the deal . . . a deal he had no intention of ever following through on.
--Allegedly, William talked at least FOUR people into ending their lives. And he watched at least one of them commit suicide live online via webcam.
--Now William has been arrested, and prosecutors are trying to decide whether to charge him with assisting suicide. If they do, and if he's convicted, William could get up to 60 years in prison.
