CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Fertilizer Plant Explosion Near Waco, Texas

There was a HUGE explosion at a fertilizer plant in a small Texas town called West last night. At least two people were killed, but officials warned the death toll could be as high as 70. Here are the details, some of which are still being sorted out . . .

It happened at 8:50 P.M. Eastern Time at the West Fertilizer Plant, about 18 miles north of Waco, in a town of 2,600 people. A fire started at the plant, and burned for at least half an hour. After emergency personnel responded, a fertilizer tank exploded.

The two people killed were Emergency Services personnel, and the blast took out a two-to-five block radius, including somewhere between 60 to 80 homes. About 10 to 15 buildings were demolished, and another 50 were damaged.

It registered a 2.1 on the Richter scale. For reference, the Oklahoma City bombing . . . which was a fertilizer bomb . . . registered a 3.0 on the Richter scale. And the blast was felt as far as a mile and a half away.

The mayor of West is a guy named Tommy Muska, and he had this to say: "It was a like a nuclear bomb went off. Big old mushroom cloud. There are a lot of people that got hurt. There are a lot of people that will not be here tomorrow."

"This is not the end of the world. This is a big ol' cut that we got across our hearts right now."
